![]() It was a live album recorded in Japan in 1978 - Tokyo Tapes. Uli's farewell album from that period, was to mark the end of the early Scorpions era. These were - in chronological order - Fly To The Rainbow (1974), In Trance (1975), Virgin Killer (1976) and Taken by Force (1977). The band recorded altogether four studio albums and one live-album during that five-year period. Each one of these was to achieve iconic status in the history of rock music. Uli recorded five albums with the Scorpions - one for each year of his tenure. He quickly established himself as one of the main songwriters in the band and soon gained an international reputation as one of the most important innovators of the electric guitar. This lead to a 5-year record contract with one of the major international record companies at the time, RCA.ĭuring his five year tenure as a member of Germany’s number one rock band, Uli built the foundation for his status of guitar legend. Soon afterwards, the “new” Scorpions played their first gig, which happened to be a two-song live appearance on one of the two main German television channels. Later that year, the two remaining members of Scorpions - Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine - joined forces with the four members of Dawn Road in the summer of 1973. But before leaving the band, Michael asked Uli to take his place instead. This lead to the break-up of the Scorpions, which his brother, Rudolf Schenker, had formed in the Sixties. The duo also lists heavy metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Overkill, and Slayer as their key influences. Gabriela clarified in a Reddit AMA that her right-hand technique has a lot of influence from the Irish Bodhran drum playing. Rodrigo usually plays lead lines while Gabriela provides the accompaniment with her peculiar percussion style. Some of you might disagree with me calling them ‘fingerstyle guitarists,’ consider them as a bonus addition in that case. ![]() We’ll end this list with the emphatic Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo Sanchez y Gabriela Quintero. Here is his version of the song Classical Gas by Mason Williams. He has given a lot of credit of his playing style to Chet Atkins, which is the next name on this list. Well, a lot of you might not know that he is a great drummer too, which explains the percussion part. Besides his amazing fingerstyle and “boom-chick” technique, he is adept at adding percussive elements to his arrangements as well. I’ve seen just a handful of guitarists with as much energy and communication with the audience as the Australian guitarist. It’s not just about the complex technique and his mastery over the acoustic guitar (which is beyond comparison by the way), but he is one of the greatest performers in my opinion. There is a reason why Tommy Emmanuel is regarded as the fan-favorite Fingerstyle Legend. Here are the best fingerstyle guitarists, in no particular order. I’ll include both contemporary and modern musicians in this list, but there’s no way I can include all of them (there are so many!). I’m going to talk about some amazing artists that have mastered this art and are extremely adept at both the technical and creative side of their music.
